My name is Ashley Uphoff and I currently teach a section of first grade at St. George. This is my 9th year teaching with 7 years in kindergarten and 1 year in 2nd grade. This year I am teaching first grade. I studied my general education and achieved my Associates degree right here in Kankakee County at Kankakee Community College. I then went on to obtain my Bachelors degree in Elelmentary Education at Eastern Illinois University and graduated in 2010. I worked as a substitute teacher and fell in love with small group teaching and decided to go back to school for my Masters Degree in Reading. I started that journey at Olivet Nazarene University obtained my Masters in 2013. I fell in love with kindergarten when I worked as an aid in Kankakee. After that I pursued a career as a Kindergarten teacher.

I have two young children that keep me busy outside of school. We like to spend our free time at the park, going for ice cream, and exploring fun things to do in the community. My hobbies include caring for my houseplants, learning new crochet patterns, and crafting. I really enjoy sitting on my deck drinking iced coffee's and eating baked goods.

I strive to provide an environment for my students that is both positive and collaborative. My students always feel comfortable to express how they feel and always get a positive response. I use a system called Class Dojo to provide a positive reinforcement approach to discipline. More information about that can be found on the Class Dojo information tab.
