Greetings Parents and Guardians,

I would like to introduce myself, my name is Michael Hawn and I am the School Social Worker (SSW) at St. George School District #258. I have been working as a School Social Worker for 10 years, and have had the oportunity to work in a number of schools in Kankakee County, including Momence School District, Kankakee High School, and now St. George School District.

School Social Workers are trained mental health professionals with a degree in social work who provide services related to students’ and family’s social, emotional, and life adjustment to school and/or society. School Social Workers are the link between the home, school and community in providing direct as well as indirect services to students, families, and school personnel to promote and support students’ academic and social success. School Social Workers assist schools to increase attendance, academic achievement, and the numbers of students who graduate.

School Social Workers get involved when students display:

Poor attendance

Failing grades

Effects of family crisis

Emotional and behavioral concerns such as fighting, negative attitude toward school, refusal to cooperate with adults, depression, anxiety,  substance abuse and many other issues.

I am available to speak to any parent or guardian who may have questions or concerns.

Please do not hesitate to contact me about anything at all and hopefully I can be of assistance to you and your family!

I look forward to meeting many of you and getting to know the SG258 community.

Thank you,

Michael Hawn MSW
