Letter to Parents - School Closure update 03-20-2020

Dear St. George Families,

On Friday, March 20, Illinois State Governor J.B. Pritzker, announced during a press conference  that the closure of all Illinois public and private schools will be extending from March 31 through  April 7 because of COVID-19.

At this time, school is scheduled to resume on Wednesday, April 8. Please note that students  are not in attendance on April 9 (School Improvement Day), April 10 (Spring Holiday), and April  13 (Spring Holiday) as previously planned. I will continue to update you through School  Messenger once we have additional information.

During the closure, all school activities, including all programming at the school, all athletic and  extracurricular practices and competitions, and weekend events are cancelled.

As a reminder, we will continue through March 30, 2020 with the modified e-Learning Plan  communicated to families on March 15, 2020. To summarize that email:

  • Assignments for e-Learning Days 2-5 were uploaded and available throughout this week.
  • These assignments will continue to be available until Monday, March 30, at 3:00 p.m.
  • NO NEW ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE GIVEN AFTER FRIDAY, MARCH 20.
  • Students have until Monday, March 30, at 3:00 p.m. to complete these four (4) days of  assignments. The modified plan allows us to set aside the requirements for 5 hours of daily  work that had to be completed daily for the child to be considered in attendance.
  • Students without devices and/or connectivity should complete paper packets and return  them to school on the first day school resumes.
  • Teachers will be available to assist through email and phone call according to the following  schedule:
    • Monday, March 23 - Thursday,     March 26 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. (noon)
    • Monday,                                             March 30 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
  • Follow instructions in your e-Learning Day packet to contact teachers that were previously  sent home.
  • Teachers will not be available on Friday, March 27.
  • Teachers may be available at other times not listed above.

During next week, we will attempt to provide families with additional, optional activities for your  family that may be useful throughout the closure. These engaging activities will support learning  and our curriculum, but will not be monitored by teachers. There is no need to report back to  teachers about your student’s participation in these optional activities.

I will communicate with families the e-Learning Plan that will go into effect from March  31 – April 7 next week.

Thank you again for your understanding and support. Our students and faculty had a great week  of learning because of your support. I know these times of constant change can be challenging  for you and your family. Please know that we are available by phone at (815) 933-1503.

Sincerely,

Helen Boehrnsen
Superintendent
