Dear St. George Families,
I hope this email finds you and your family well during this time of change attributable to the COVID-19 pandemic. As I communicated to families on Friday, March 13, 2020, beginning Tuesday, March 17 through Monday, March 30, all public and private schools in the State of Illinois are required to close in an effort to contain community spread of COVID-19. The Governor has taken the unprecedented action of declaring these closure days as Act of God days and has stated that they will not be made up at a later date.
The St. George CCSD No. 258 faculty and staff are committed to providing continuity of educational services for your students. To fulfill this commitment, St. George School is enacting a modified e-Learning Plan as allowed by the Illinois State Board of Education because of this unprecedented event.
The modified e-Learning Plan provides for the following process and schedule:
∙ Assignments for e-Learning Days 2-5 will be uploaded and live each morning by 8:30 a.m. Day 2 assignments will be available on Tuesday, March 17, at 8:30 a.m. Day 3 assignments will be available Wednesday, March 18, at 8:30 a.m. and so on through Friday, March 20.
- All the above assignments will continue to be available until Monday, March 30, at 3:00 p.m.
- NO NEW ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE GIVEN AFTER FRIDAY, MARCH 20.
- Students have until Monday, March 30, at 3:00 p.m. to complete these four (4) days of assignments. The modified plan allows us to set aside the requirements for 5 hours of daily work that had to be completed daily for the child to be considered in attendance. ∙ Students without devices and/or connectivity should complete paper packets and return them to school on the first day school resumes.
- Teachers will be available to assist through email and phone call according to the following schedule:
- Tuesday, March 17 - Friday, March 20 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
- Monday, March 23 - Thursday, March 26 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. (noon)
- Monday, March 30 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
- Follow instructions in your e-Learning Day packet to contact teachers that were previously sent home.
- Teachers will not be available on Friday, March 27.
- Teachers may be available at other times not listed above.
- As with our first e-Learning Day in February, school and district administration will monitor activities to ensure any issues or concerns are addressed in a timely manner.
Unless your student is ill, it is important that your child attends school tomorrow, March 16, 2020, so that additional instructions and supplies can be readied for your student to take home. Another email will be sent later today with specific information regarding procedures to request a loaner Chromebook. Chromebook distribution will occur at school on Tuesday, March 17, only to and for those parents who complete the three-step online process. Again, this email will be sent out to all families later today.
To summarize:
- As of today, the school will be open with normal hours on Monday, March 16, 2020.
- School closure will be Tuesday, March 17, 2020 - Monday, March 30, 2020.
- Student e-Learning Plan will begin on Tuesday, March 17, 2020, at 8:30 a.m.
- Student e-Learning Plan will continue on Monday, March 30, 2020.
- Teachers will be available as outlined previously.
- As of today, regular student attendance is scheduled to begin again on Tuesday, March 31, 2020.
The COVID-19 pandemic continues to be a rapidly changing event. If something changes or needs alteration, I will follow-up with additional communication. As always, thank you for your understanding, flexibility, and continued support as we all navigate this unprecedented situation.
Please stay safe and do not hesitate to reach out to us if we can be of assistance. Sincerely,
Helen Boehrnsen
Superintendent
