Letter to Parent/Guardian - makeup distribution and return of items

Dear St. George School Parent/Guardian,

When you arrive at the school, please line up in your car along the curb on the east side of the school. A St.  George School staff member will check you in and give you further instructions. Please stay in your car until the  St. George School staff member has checked you in and directs you where to park and when to enter the school  through the gym doors.

Please remember the following to ensure the health and safety of our staff and St. George School  parents/guardians:

  • Masks must be worn by everyone at all times during this process. You must provide your own  mask(s).

Letter to 8th grade parents - promotion final reminders 2020

Dear Parents/Guardians of SG Eighth Grade Students,

Congratulations to your graduate and family as your child achieves the milestone of eighth-grade  promotion. While we are disappointed that we will not have an in-person ceremony, we want you to  know that we have enjoyed and are proud of our role in your graduate’s achievement. But mostly,  we thank you for supporting your graduate throughout his/her time at St. George School.

As we prepare for the final event for your eighth-grade student at St. George School, it is important  for the health and safety of all involved that families adhere to the protocols established by the school  and district. While these protocols may seem restrictive, it is our responsibility to ensure the well being of our families and school staff while on school property. Health and safety protocols include  the following:

  • Graduates and their immediate families must remain in their cars at all times. ∙
  • Additional cars without a graduate will not be allowed in the line or parking lot. ∙
  • There is no available parking at the school for other visitors related to your graduate.

Please note that the purpose of the activity on Monday, May 4 is for your graduate to receive some  of his/her personal items as allowed under the current Executive Order. Graduation is a virtual  ceremony.

Programs were mailed home earlier this week. If you have not received the program, please contact  the school immediately. We encourage you to take pictures of your graduate at home and share  them with us by email at [email protected] for posting on our Facebook page (@SGS258).

Please note the following reminders.

  1. The virtual ceremony will be Monday, May 4, 2020 at 6:30 p.m. The link will be emailed to  parents, on May 4 by 6:30 p.m. The email will contain a link to the 2020 St. George CCSD  No. 258 Virtual Promotion. If you should have any problems with the link call the school. Mr.  Wells be will be available by phone at (815) 933-1503 to assist you should you not receive  the email.
  2. If you plan for your graduate to pick-up his/her belongings related to the promotion after the  virtual ceremony, please plan to arrive at the school by 7:15 p.m.
  3. Please have your graduate seated on the front passenger side of the vehicle. Families should create a sign with the graduate’s name placed in the front window on the passenger  side. As you finish your loop through the parking lot in your vehicle, please stop across from  the school entrance for your graduate to receive his/her belongings related to the promotion.  Your graduate and your family must remain in the vehicle at all times.

Graduates are encouraged to wear their caps and gowns and our families to dress in SG gear or  school colors.

As a reminder, please enter on West Street just after Bennett Heating & Plumbing. Then turn East  (left) onto Center Street and wait for the procession to begin through the main parking lot. A staff  member will be there to check you in. Vehicles should exit from Church Street. Please see the map  below.

Next week, the process for retrieving the remainder of your child’s belongings, as well as the return  of school-owned materials, will be communicated to parents.

Again, congratulations to the 2020 St. George CCSD No. 258 graduates!

Sincerely

Letter to 8th grade parents - Promotion 2020

Dear Parents/Guardians of 8th Graders,

Whether your graduate has been with us since the beginning of his/her school career or joined our  family somewhere along the way, we hope your graduate and your family have fond memories of  St. George School. We understand the disappointment and sense of loss your graduate and family  may be experiencing during this difficult time. We are sad and disappointed as well. No one could  have imagined when we started school in August that we would spend the fourth quarter at home in  a remote learning environment. Moreover, we never anticipated when we left school on March 16  that we would not return for the last band concert and awards, the athletic awards ceremony, the  8th-grade dinner and dance, or promotion. Unfortunately, given the social distancing regulations in  place through at least the end of May, we are unable to realize these activities as live, in-person  events this year.

As previously announced, the band and athletic awards are being presented virtually. You will  receive an email with links by early next week. The Stay-at-Home order along with the CDC  guidelines for social distancing required us to develop a unique promotion ceremony for your  graduate and family this year. While we understand this cannot replace an in-person ceremony, we  hope you will understand we have worked diligently to ensure your child feels honored as a graduate  of St. George School District No. 258.

On Monday, May 4, 2020, St. George CCSD No. 258 will hold virtual promotion ceremony at 6:30  p.m. You will receive an email, scheduled to be delivered to the email address we have on file for  you, on May 4 by 6:30 p.m. The email will contain a link to the 2020 St. George CCSD No. 258  Virtual Promotion. If you need to change your email, please call Sara at (815) 933-1503 x 3136 now  so that you receive the email. In addition, we have found that some email servers have blocked our  emails. Please check your settings to ensure you receive emails from us.

We hope that you will watch the promotion video with your family. To truly honor your graduate, we  encourage your graduate to wear his/her cap and gown. We also encourage you to take pictures of  your graduate that evening and share them with us at [email protected] for posting later that  week on our Facebook page.

After the ceremony, we ask that you drive to St. George School for a Parade of Graduates. Please  plan to arrive at school by 7:15 p.m. Please enter on West Street just after Bennett Heating &  Plumbing. Then turn East (left) onto Center Street and wait for the Parade of Graduates to begin  through the main parking lot. Vehicles should exit the parade from Church Street. A rain date of  Thursday, May 7 has been selected as an alternate day for the parade only. We will notify you if  there is a rescheduling of the parade.

The St. George Community creates a world-class educational environment that employs technology and quality classroom instruction  to help our children become global independent thinkers, lifelong learners, and productive members of society.

St. George School Staff will be lined up to wave and congratulate our SG graduates and their  families. Staff will practice social distancing. It is important that families remain in their vehicles  throughout the parade. We encourage our graduates to wear their caps and gowns and our families  to dress in SG gear or school colors. Decorating your vehicle would be a special touch. Please have  your graduate seated on the front passenger side of the vehicle. Families should create a sign with  the graduate’s name placed in the front window on the passenger side.

As you finish your loop through the parking lot in your vehicle, please stop across from the school  entrance for your graduate to receive his/her diploma. Please have your graduate and your family  remain in the vehicle. Please see the map below.

A videographer will be present to capture the parade for your graduate and your family. Promotion  programs will be mailed to your homes next week.

As a special gift for graduates, personalized yard signs will be delivered once they are received. It  is our hope we will receive these prior to May 4. In addition, all graduates will receive a video of the  ceremony after the footage is added from the parade.

As your graduate transitions from this phase of his/her schooling, we look forward to honoring our  St. George CCSD No. 258 Class of 2020 Graduates with you through this unique ceremony.

Sincerely

Letter to Parents - School Closure 04-17-2020

Dear St. George CCSD No. 258 Families,

As many of you are aware, today Governor Pritzker suspended in-person school instruction and  extended remote learning through the end of the school term for all Illinois schools. I understand  this may be difficult for your student and family because the traditional end-of-year activities at St.  George School will not be occurring as we have come to know them. Students are missing the  daily interactions with their friends, teachers and other school personnel. St. George School Staff  miss the students. Your student may also experience a sense of loss related to sports activities,  clubs and other after school activities. It is difficult for many of us to understand this sudden  change to our daily routines, interactions, and relationships.

Our school community has proven its resilience, capabilities, and compassion throughout the last  four weeks. My hope for our students, families, and staff is that we will continue - upon the  conclusion of this pandemic - with a renewed appreciation for the everyday routines of our lives,  a desire to renew our relationships when it is possible, and resilience in the face of adversity so  that we emerge as a community even stronger.

On-going planning for the possibility of not returning to our physical school as well as creative  ways to bring closure to this unusual school year has been underway. Today, I would like to  communicate the following about the close of the school year.

Remote Learning & Calendar Adjustments

School is still in session. We will continue with our Remote Learning Plan through the end of  the year. Our school calendar had the last day of student attendance scheduled for May 13, 2020,  because of our construction project. Given the need to review our curriculum, identify gaps, plan  to remediate the gaps, and prepare for when school resumes in August, St. George School staff  needs significant time to accomplish these tasks. Therefore, student engagement will conclude  on May 8, 2020.

The following updates/changes to our calendar are effective now:

  • April 22 will remain a Remote Planning Day - No student work will be posted.
  • May 1 will now be a Student Engagement Day.
  • May 8 is now the last day of student engagement.
  • May 11, 12, 13 are Remote Planning Days.
  • May 14 is Teacher Institute.

A revised calendar is attached reflecting these changes.

Please help us keep your students engaged. Students will continue to need support, even those  students who seem completely independent and tech-savvy. Several ways to help your student  include:

  • Establishing routines and expectations
  • Choosing a good place for learning,
  • Checking in with your student
  • Asking questions such as, what assignments are they working on or do they need  help.
  • Reaching out to the classroom teacher when additional assistance is needed.

I want to assure you, our entire staff remains committed to learning and engaging with all students  through remote learning.

Food Distribution

Sack breakfasts and lunches will continue through at least May 6. We are examining the possibility  of continuing distribution for an additional week to two weeks beyond this date. Our food service  staff has provided over 500 delicious, nutritional breakfasts and lunches weekly. Their dedication  to meeting the nutritional needs of students is appreciated.

Virtual Field Day

Mr. Grala and Ms. Langenhorst are developing fun activities for students to do while at home to  participate in the St. George School Virtual Field Day. Look for information in your student’s on line platform the week of May 4.

Band and Athletic Awards

Virtual ceremonies are being planned for Band and Athletic Awards. The platform for distribution  of this ceremony is being discussed. More information will be communicated soon.

Graduation

Graduation information will be communicated to graduates and parents next week. Personalized  graduation yard signs have been ordered for each graduate and will be delivered by St. George  School Staff.

Student Personal Items/Return of Textbooks/Computers

Procedures for pick-up and drop-off of materials will be distributed on May 4. A system has been  developed for students to retrieve their belongings curbside and to return District books and  Chromebooks beginning the week of May 11.

Virtual Send-off

Please look for a virtual send-off to kick off summer for students by St. George Teachers and  Staff.

This has not been a traditional fourth quarter for students, parents or staff. It has been an  unexpected and unwelcome change for everyone. It has taken patience and understanding to  work through this situation together. We look forward to next year and with it, the opportunity to  see everyone again in some refreshed learning spaces. Thank you for working together with us  to support your student.

Sincerely,

Helen Boehrnsen

Letter to 8th Grade Parents (Cap and Gown Pickup and Pictures)

Dear Parent/Guardians of 8th Graders,

I hope this message finds you and your family healthy and safe. While we await further  information from Governor Pritzker regarding sheltering in place and the possible resumption of  school, St. George CCSD No. 258 must consider alternatives to our traditional events especially  as we near the end of the school year. The unprecedented global pandemic has created  situations that many of us could not have imagined just a few months ago. Major milestones and  events in families’ lives may look very different during this time.

Although a decision has not been made regarding the St. George CCSD No. 258 Eighth Grade Promotion scheduled for May 4, 2020, the administration is planning for the possibility that we  may be unable to assemble as we do traditionally to honor our students. Just as births, weddings,  birthdays, holidays, graduations and other life events look different to us at this time, it is  important that our community plans for the possibility that our eighth-grade promotion may  require a unique ceremony this year.

To prepare for the possibility of this unique graduation, cap and gown distribution will occur  curbside at St. George School on Thursday, April 16, 2020, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. by  appointment. Please see the link below. Please stay in your car and check-in with the school  staff stationed at the curb by the front entrance to the school. You will then proceed in your car  to the Athletic Entrance where school personnel will give you the cap and gown. It is important  that you arrive at your scheduled time so that the distribution can occur smoothly. Please do not  exit your car. Distribution at this time will allow families to press the gown, etc., before  pictures are taken next week.

If you are unable to pick-up your cap and gown on Thursday, April 16 between 10:00 a.m. and  12:00 p.m., please email Mr. Wells at [email protected] to make alternative arrangements for  pick-up.

On Monday, April 20, 2020 from 11:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Image Group, the District’s photographer,  will be at St. George School to take pictures of your eighth-grade student in cap and gown  (including tassel). Students will sign up (link below) to enter through the main entrance for the  photographer in the LRC or to enter on the side gym door for the photographer in the  gym. Students being photographed in the LRC should wait curbside at the front entrance.  Students being photographed in the gym should wait curbside at the athletic entrance. Order  forms for graduation pictures will be emailed to you later this week. All students and parents  should remain in their cars until the student only is directed by the school staff to enter  the school. The St. George Community creates a world-class educational environment that employs technology and quality classroom instruction  to help our children become global independent thinkers, lifelong learners, and productive members of society.

It is important for everyone’s health and safety that we practice social distancing by following  these procedures. The appointment times are scheduled at 5-minute intervals so it is important  that students arrive on time in their caps and gowns ready to be photographed.

We understand the possibility of a non-traditional ceremony may be upsetting or disappointing  to you or your student. Please be assured that St. George School CCSD No. 258 will do everything possible to create a unique ceremony that is memorable for your student and family  and honors this milestone in your student’s life. We will provide additional information to you as  we learn more from the governor.
